I like to refer to these as my best impressions of blue steel. For those of you who don’t know what that is, go watch Zoolander right now. But I’m not trying to show off my modeling skills here (although I am taking offers 8]).
And don’t get me wrong, I think these poses are kind of hilarious. Just squinting my eyes and grilling the camera like I am the Boss. Get at me bro.
But on a serious note, I don’t even realize I do this. It just kind of happens in pretty much 90% of my pictures. Cold, hard, blue steel. But it got me thinking. It does look a little funny, but it shows something.
It’s a look of drive. I’m not staring blankly into the camera, I’m owning it. And as of late, that has been my take on everything in life. I think it comes out subconsciously every time I take a photo.
Whether it is relationships, career, or general lifestyle, I have switched to owning my life. I can almost guarantee that I have this exact look 90% of the time I approach a girl. I had this look the day I walked out of my job.
The fact is, I haven’t owned anything yet. I still have a long way to go and I’m very much learning how to get there. And I probably don’t have much of a future as a model, unless they come out with a sequel to Zoolander.
But that doesn’t matter. The fact is, there’s something there. Drive.
Drive. Drive is the thing that wakes me up every morning at 7:30am. It gives me the will to crank out all of my freelance writing assignments when I just want to quit and relax. It makes me want more out of life.
Drive makes it impossible for me to be a follower. Drive is what you see in that picture. I’m not just a shell of a person like I was once.
There’s something behind that stare, you can see it. I’m awake. I’m facing my fears and I’m still petrified, but I’m awake as ever.
So that leads me to this question: Are you driven?
If there’s something you don’t like in your life, do you actively try to change it? Or do you hide behind your fear of the risk?
If you aren’t doing something about it, what are you waiting for? Life is too short to wait around and do shit you hate while staying in situations you hate.
Be driven. Do everything you can to live a life you absolutely love. If you hate your job, quit. If you’re bored with your relationship, break up. Start putting the pieces together and moving in the right direction. There will be no perfect moment. You just need to do something.
Do something crazy. Trust me, it’ll wake you up.
If you stay in the same place and don’t do anything, nothing is going to change. Stop expecting it to. Wake up, or pretty soon you’ll end up like this guy.
Embrace your blue steel. Be driven.
